Fulton County, New York
Not to be confused with the town of Fulton in Schoharie County or the City of Fulton in Oswego County.
Fulton County is a county in New York State. It is located northwest of Albany and is considered part of the Capital District region. The county is also located at the southern foothills of the Adirondack Mountains and is considered part of the Mohawk Valley region. It borders Hamilton County to the north, Saratoga County to the east, Herkimer County to the west and Montgomery County to the south. Fulton County is one of the smaller of New York’s 62 counties, both in size and population. The county covers five hundred and thirty-three square miles. , the population was around 52,000. The county was formed in 1838 and named after Robert Fulton, an American engineer known for building the first commercial steamboat. Fulton County contains ten towns and two cities, Johnstown and Gloversville, the latter being the county seat.

Most of Fulton County's northern area is very rural. It does not have busy roads and is not patrolled heavily. The southern part of the county is closer to I-90 and has more residential areas. The busiest road in Fulton County is New York State Route 29 (NYS-29). It runs east and south-southwest through the southeast corner. It passes through Broadalbin and Johnstown. Taking NYS-29 southbound will bring you to Fonda and I-90. Taking it east will bring you to Saratoga Springs and I-87. Some large local roads that pass through Fulton County include New York State Route 10 (NYS-10), New York State Route 29 (NYS-29), and New York State Route 30 (NYS-30), all of which lead towards I-90 in some way.
The roads in Fulton County are patrolled by the Fulton County Sheriff's Department and New York State Police. The summons they write will be made answerable to one of the Fulton County justice courts or city courts. The court you must respond to will be on the ticket.
