Gloversville is a city in Fulton County, New York. It is located on the southern foothills of the Adirondack State Park and is considered part of the Mohawk Valley region. The city is approximately 50 miles northwest of Albany and approximately 50 miles east of Utica. , the city population was estimated at 15,000. The city area was initially settled by New England migrants in 1752. In 1828, Gloversville received its current name. It was derived from the area’s booming glove making industry. Prior to this, the settlement was called “Stump City” due to the abundance of trees in the area that were cut down.
