Montgomery County is a small county in New York State. It is located northwest of the City of Albany. The county is considered part of the Mohawk Valley region and Capital District region. It was formed in 1772 and named after Richard Montgomery, an American major general in the Revolutionary War. Montgomery County covers four hundred and ten square miles. It contains ten towns and one city named Amsterdam., the combined total population of Montgomery County was approximately 48,000.
