Traffic Tickets in Mooers, New York

A substantial amount of traffic passes through town due to its location along the US- Canada border. Motorists passing through town are often on their way to I-87 to either cross into Canada or travel south in the direction of Albany.

US-Route 11 is a road that runs through multiple states and then continues into Canada as Route 223. It connects to I-87 in the neighboring town of Champlain. In the North County region, the US-11 is a two-lane road and serves as the main route for east-west travel. For the most part, the speed limit is 55 miles per hour. However, the speed limit is reduced from time to time, mostly when the road enters downtown areas. Motorists not from the area and not paying attention to the road signs often get ensnared in such speed traps. Most citations in Mooers originate from traffic violations on the US-11.

Other town roads include County Route 14 (Davidson Road) and New York State Route 22 (NYS-22). CR-14 serves the more rural western area of town that US-11 does not reach. It runs parallel to the English River before it connects to US-11 in the center of town. Motorists can access Canada via Hemmingford Road, which branches off the US-11 in the Hamlet of Mooers and heads north until it reaches a border checkpoint.

The New York State Police and Clinton County Sheriff’s Department conduct routine patrols in the area, especially as it is a border town. They also conduct traffic stops where appropriate. All traffic violations in Mooers are adjudicated in the Town of Mooers Justice Court.
