Champlain is a town in Clinton County, New York. It is in the most northeastern town in New York State. The northern town line is the Canada-US border. The eastern town line is the State of Vermont (across Lake Champlain)., Champlain’s population was approximately 5,800. The town was established in 1788 and named in honor of Samuel de Champlain, a French colonist, soldier, explorer, and diplomat that surveyed the area in 1609.
