Traffic Tickets in Stockholm
The US-Route 11 (US-11) is a two-lane highway that crosses the Adirondacks southwest-northwest. Coming from Watertown in the southwest it continues north-northeast until it reaches the area of Stockholm, where it turns east. From there it runs mostly east-west across the very northern portion of New York State. Its terminus is in the Champlain area, the most northeastern portion of New York. For the most part, the US-11 has a 55-mph speed limit. However, as it goes through towns and villages, it turns into the main street, which requires that the speed limit be reduced. This also happens in Stockholm. It is at these junctures where most traffic stops occur. It is mostly out-of-town motorists that fail to pay attention to the signs and end up in a speed trap. Other busy roads in Stockholm are New York State Route 11C (NY-11C), County Route 47 (CR-47), and New York State Route 118 (NY-118).
The Stockholm Justice Court (Stockholm Town Court) handles all town traffic violations, most of which are speeding tickets issued on US-11. Court sessions are held twice per month on the first and third Wednesday. The town lacks a local police department. The responsibility of issuing traffic citations falls on the St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Police.
