Stillwater is a town in Saratoga County, New York. It is just north of the small city of Mechanicville and approximately thirty miles north of Albany. US-Route 4 (US-4) is the town’s arterial road. It runs north-south along the Hudson River. As it follows the river downstream it passes through Bemis Heights, Stillwater, and Riverside. Heading east and west across the northern part of town is New York State Route 423 (NYS-423). It runs from Snake Hill to Bemis Heights. The middle part of town is served by County Route 76 (Lake Road), which runs from the western town line to Stillwater Village. County Route 75 (CR-75) runs north-south through the bottom half of town. New York State Route 67 (NYS-67) runs along the town’s southern boundary.

The Stillwater Town Court (Stillwater Justice Court) adjudicates all the town’s traffic law violations. Citations are written by the New York State Police and the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office. Most traffic stops occur on the main road, US-4. Many of the tickets that are issued are for speeding violations, specifically to motorists as they enter the village. The village speed limit is 30 miles per hour. Outside of the village, the speed limit fluctuates between 55 and 40 miles per hour, depending on the surroundings.
