Schenectady County (pronounced Ski-NACK-tidee) is a county in New York State. It is located northwest of Albany and considered part of the Capital District region. The county makes up just two hundred and nine square miles. It is the seventh smallest county of New York’s sixty-two counties. It is the second smallest if you exclude the five New York City counties.
Schenectady County was founded in 1809 and its name is derived from the Mohawk Language. In their language, the word means “on the other side of the pine lands”. The county is made up of five towns and one city, also named Schenectady. The city is the county seat. , Schenectady County’s population was estimated to be around 156,000.
