Niskayuna (pronounced "niskuh-YOO-nuh”) is a town in Schenectady County, New York. It is located approximately twenty miles northwest of the City of Albany. The town is considered part of the Capital District region. Most of Niskayuna is composed of residential neighborhoods and developments. It serves as a suburb of Albany., the town population was estimated at 23,300. Dutch settlers founded the town in 1809. The name Niskayuna is derived from the Mohawk language. It roughly translates to “extensive corn flats”, which describes the land on which the town was formed.
