Niskayuna (pronounced "ni-skuh-YOO-nuh”) is a town in Schenectady County, New York. The town serves as a suburb of Albany and is twenty miles from its downtown. Most of Niskayuna is composed of residential neighborhoods and developments. As of February of 2022, the population was 24,396. Dutch settlers founded the town in 1809. The name Niskayuna is derived from the Mohawk language. It roughly translates to “extensive corn flats”, which describes the land on which the town was formed.
