LeRay is a town in Jefferson County, New York. It is just northeast of the City of Watertown and serves as its suburb., the town was home to approximately 25,377 residents. The town is named after Jacques-Donatien LeRay, known as a French “father of the American Revolution”. The town consists of two villages and two hamlets. The villages are Black River and Evans Mills. The hamlets are Calcium and Dutch Settlement. A large part of the Fort Drum military reservation is within LeRay.

The town’s main road is US Route 11 (US-11). It cuts through town diagonally heading northeast and southwest. Heading south on US-11 brings you to Watertown. Heading north brings you to Philadelphia. US-11 meets I-781 (Paul Cerjan Memorial Highway) halfway between the hamlets of LeRay and Calcium.
In the hamlet of LeRay, US-11 intersects New York State Route 26 (NYS-26). This road runs northwest and southeast. Heading north on it leads motorists to the Village of Evans Mills. Taking it south brings you the neighboring village of Carthage.
US-11 intersects another main road just north of Calcium. That road is New York State Route 342 (NYS-342), which also runs northwest and southeast. Taking this road southbound will bring you to the Village of Black River.
The town receives its police services from the New York State Police and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department. The villages share a combined police force. The authorities conduct regular traffic patrols and issue citations for various traffic violations. All tickets issued in LeRay will be made answerable to the LeRay Town Court. This includes those issued in either village. Speeding is the most common charge dealt with by the court. These tickets are mostly issued on US-11 and the portion of I-781 that falls under the town’s jurisdiction.
