Gouverneur (pronounced like “governor”) is a town in St. Lawrence County, New York. It is located in the northwest part of New York State, a few miles from the Canadian border. The closest city is Watertown, approximately forty miles southwest of the town. The total town area is seventy-two square miles. , the town population was approximately 6,600.
