Champion is the name of a town in Jefferson County, New York. It is located around ten miles east of Watertown, on the western foothills of Adirondack Park. The area is considered to be part of the North Country region. Champion is forty-five square miles, most of it being farmland. In the village, it intersects their main road, New York State Route 126 (NYS-126), which enters from the northeast. There used to be two courts in Champion. One was dedicated to the town and the other was dedicated to the Village of West Carthage. In 2017, the village court closed. All matters were transferred to the Champion Town Court. The town court continues to handle all cases from the town and the village. The village still has a small police department that issues traffic citations from time to time. In the rest of the town, traffic stops are conducted by Jefferson County Sheriff Deputies or New York State Police.
