Altona is a town in Clinton County, New York. It is in an area known as North Country and is a fifteen-minute drive from the Canadian border., the town population was estimated at 3,200. Altona covers one hundred square miles. The town was formed in 1857 and named after a district in Hamburg, Germany. Inside the town is a hamlet also named Altona.

As it heads north-east from the town’s south-west corner it passes through the hamlet of Jerusalem and Alder Bend. It then heads north, intersects with NYS-190, and continues until it reaches the hamlet of Irona. For a moment, US-Route 11 falls under Altona’s jurisdiction. This occurs in the very north-west corner of town near the hamlets of Forest, Ellenburg Depot, and Lake Roxane.
