Wright, New York
Wright is a town in Schoharie County, New York. It is located approximately thirty miles west of Albany. , the town had an estimated population of 1,500. Wright makes up twenty-nine square miles and encompasses the hamlets of Gallupville and Shutter Corners. The town was established in 1846 and named after the Governor of New York State at the time, Silas Wright.

The town’s arterial road is New York State Route 443 (NYS-443). It runs straight through the center of town heading north-west and south-east. The NYS-443 follows the Fox Creek and passes through Gallupville and Shutter Corners. Heading north-east and southwest through the north part of town is New York State Route 146 (NYS-146). Its southern terminus is NYS-443. Just north of the terminus is a fork in the road. Taking NYS-146 north-east brings you to the town’s eastern boundary. Taking the other road north-west brings you through the more rural area of town.
The town of Wright does not have a local police department. Police services are provided by the Schoharie County Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Police. Both are authorized to conduct a traffic stop upon probable cause of a traffic violation. Common charges cited include leaving the scene of accident, tailgating, passing unsafely, driving under the influence, and speeding. All traffic violations and misdemeanors are made answerable to the Wright Town Court (Town of Wright Justice Court). Due to its rural nature and low crime rate, this court is one of the least busiest in New York State. The court is located in the historic Gallupville House. Initially built in 1872 as a hotel, it served several different purposes over the years. It currently serves as a town hall, town court, and for other community purposes. The structure was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. There are a few other justice courts in New York State that are located in notable and historic sites.
