Wilna, New York
Wilna is a town in Jefferson County, New York. It is located just east of Fort Drum at the western foothills of the Adirondack Mountains. The closest city is Watertown, around twenty-five miles to the west of town. Syracuse is around 100 miles to the south. The area is known generally as the North Country region. , its population was estimated at 5,500. Wilna was established in 1813 and named after the German spelling of “Vilnius”. The town covers a total area of just over seventy-nine square miles and contains two villages and two hamlets. The villages are Carthage and Deferiet. The hamlets are Herrings and Natural Bridge.

The NYS-3 goes northeast from the Village of Carthage and eventually crosses the entire Adirondacks, ending up in Plattsburgh. NYS-3A crosses east-west across town. Going west from the Village of Deferiet it merges with NYS-3 in the center of town.
