Whitehall is the name of a town and village in Washington County, New York. The village is inside the town. Whitehall is roughly eighty miles north of Albany, near the Vermont State line. The southern tip of Lake Champlain forms the town’s western boundary. The town makes up approximately sixty square miles and is home to around 3,900 residents ().
In 1960, the State of New York declared Whitehall as the birthplace of the United States Navy. During the American Revolutionary War, American forces captured the British controlled village known as Skenesborough. They issue citations for various moving violations. The village has its own small police force that conducts traffic stops in the village. All town and village tickets are made answerable to the Whitehall Town Court (Town of Whitehall Justice Court).
