Webb is a town in Herkimer County, New York. It is the largest town by land size in New York State, covering four hundred and eighty-four square miles. The vast majority of the town is uninhabited wilderness of the Adirondack Mountains., the population of Webb was estimated at 1,700. The southern town line is approximately forty miles north of Utica. The area of Webb was settled in 1837 and established as a town in 1897. The town was named after William Seward Webb, president of several railway companies in Upstate New York. Webb’s railroads opened up the Adirondacks to tourism and business in the late 1800’s. The town encompasses numerous hamlets. They are: Big Moose, Eagle Bay, Keepawa, McKeever, Minnehaha, Moshier Falls, Old Forge, Stillwater, Thendara, and Woods Lake.
