Ticonderoga (pronounced "tye-con-der-OH-ga.") is a rural town in Essex County, New York. It is considered part of New York’s North Country region. The eastern town line is the La Chute River. Across the river is the State of Vermont. Ticonderoga is approximately 90 miles south of the Canadian border and approximately 100 miles north of the city of Albany., Ticonderoga’s population was estimated at 4,700.
The town was formally established in 1804 but has been occupied since the early 1700’s. Ticonderoga has seen its fair share of history.
