Thurman is a large and rural town in Warren County, New York. The town covers a total area of roughly ninety-three square miles, most of it being forestland. , Thurman had an estimated 1,300 residents. The entire town is within Adirondack Park. Its eastern town line is the Hudson River. The area is known as the North Country region of New York State. The closest metropolitan area is the small city of Glen Falls, around thirty miles southeast. The town consists of three hamlets: Athol, The Glen, and Thurman. Thurman was settled in 1790 and was named after John Thurman, one of the early settlers. Thurman also had the town of Johnsburg named after him.
