Traffic Tickets in Summit, New York

Summit does not have a police department to conduct traffic patrols. That responsibility falls on the New York State Police and the Schoharie County Sheriff’s Department. The authorities issue tickets to motorists for a wide range of reasons. The most common charge is speeding. Other common violations include those involving use of a cell phone and driving with a suspended license.

Most traffic stops occur on the town’s main roadway New York State Route 10 (NYS-10). It runs north- south through the central area of town. It passes through the hamlet of Summit as it crosses town. Taking NYS-10 north will bring you to Richmondville and the passing I-88 interstate. Taking it south will bring you to the neighboring town of Jefferson. A few large roads meet NYS-10 as it heads across town. These roads are County Route 6 (Charlotte Valley Road), County Route 16 (Wharton Hollow Road), and County Route 20 (Sawyer Hollow Road).
