Schaghticoke, New York
Schaghticoke (pronounced skat-i-kohk) is a town in Rensselaer County, New York. It is located approximately twenty miles northeast of Albany and is considered part of the Capital District region. The town was established in 1788 and named after the Schaghticoke Native American tribe. Within the town is the Village of Schaghticoke. Part of the Village of Valley Falls is in the town as well (most of this village is in Pittstown). The town also encompasses the hamlets of Grant Hollow, Melrose, Reynolds, Schaghticoke Hill and Speigletown. , Schaghticoke had an estimated population of 7,800.
