Town of Saratoga, New York

Not to be confused with Saratoga County or the City of Saratoga Springs

Saratoga is a town in Saratoga County, New York. The City of Saratoga Springs is directly west of the city. The Hudson River forms the town’s eastern boundary. The town is approximately forty miles north of Albany and considered part of the Capital District region of New York State. There are two villages in the town, Schuylerville and Victory. Schuylerville is the location of most town offices and businesses., the town population was estimated at 5,700.

The area now known as Saratoga was first settled in the late 17th century as Fort Saratoga. The Fort was best known for the Battles of Saratoga, which are often cited as the turning points for the United States during the American Revolutionary War. The town still has several historic sites and buildings frequented by visitors in the summer months.

Traffic Tickets in the Town of Saratoga

The town’s main roadways are New York State Route 29 (Lake Avenue) and US-Route 4 (US-4). NYS-29 runs east and west through the town’s northernmost area. Taking it west brings you to the neighboring city of Saratoga Springs. US-4 runs north and south along the eastern town line. NYS-29 and US-4 intersect in the Village of Schuylerville, found in the northeast corner of town. Most traffic stops occur on these two roads. Most citations issued are for speeding violations. This usually occurs as motorists enter the village of Victory, where the speed limit is suddenly reduced. Schuylerville speeding tickets mostly come from NYS-29 as motorists enter the village from the west. The speed limit in the village area is 30 miles per hour. Outside of the villages, the speed limit fluctuates between 55 and 40 miles per hour, depending on the surroundings. Some other busy town roads are New York State Route 32 (NYS-32), County Route 67 (CR-67), and County Route 68 (CR-68).

Traffic stops in the town of Saratoga can be conducted by sheriff deputies or state police. All traffic citations are made answerable to the Saratoga Town Court (also known as the Town of Saratoga Justice Court). The court is located within the two-story building at the intersection of Spring Street and NYS-32, in the village of Schuylerville. According to a historical marker outside the building, it was the site of the Continental Barracks where Thomas Lovelace was charged with spying for the British. He was sentenced to hanging.
