Sand Lake is a town in Rensselaer County, New York. The town was named after a large lake in the center of town that was originally named Sand Lake (now Crystal Lake). The town is part of the Capital District region and is located approximately fifteen miles east of downtown Albany. Around twenty miles east of Sand Lake is the Massachusetts State line., Sand Lake was home to an estimated 8,200 residents. The town covers thirty-six square miles and includes the hamlets Averill Park, Sand Lake, and West Sand Lake. Many are drawn to the area for its abundance of recreational fishing opportunities.

It heads north and south, passing through West Sand Lake and Sliters. County Route 52 (Sheer Road) serves the southern part of town and Maple Grove. It runs east and west, connecting NYS-150 to NYS-43.
