Salem is a town in Washington County, New York. It is located on the New York and Vermont state line. The city of Glen Falls is around twenty-five miles northwest and the city of Albany is around fifty miles southwest., the town was home to an estimated 2,715 residents. Salem covers fifty-two square miles and contains several hamlets. They are Eagleville, Fitch Point, Greenwich Junction, Rexleigh, Salem, and Shushan.
Salem was first settled in 1761 by Joshua Conkey and James Turner, two soldiers from the French and Indian War. The town has several points of interest from the Revolutionary War and Civil War. There are also several historic structures including some covered bridges.
