Rotterdam is a town in Schenectady County, New York. It is just west of the city of Schenectady and approximately fifteen miles west of Albany. The town is considered part of the Capital District region. Rotterdam is, for the most part, comprised of various residential communities., the population of Rotterdam was estimated at 31,000. The town was named by its early Dutch settlers after the City of Rotterdam in the Netherlands.
