North Elba is a town in Essex County, New York. It is found in the Adirondack Park. The town encompasses the village of Lake Placid, which is more well-known than the town. The town also includes a part of the Village of Saranac Lake. Around 1810, the town was named Elba after the Elba Iron Works company that operated in the area. Around 1850, the locals learned there was a town in Genesee County previously called Elba, so they renamed their town to North Elba.
