Milton is a town in Saratoga County, New York. It is just south of the city of Saratoga Springs and around thirty miles north of Albany. The town makes up about thirty-six square miles and is home to approximately 20,000 residents (). The northern part of the Village of Ballston Spa is within Milton. The village serves as the downtown and the town’s main population area. Most businesses and town offices are in the village as well. Milton’s hamlets are Factory Village, Milton Center, North Milton, Rock City Falls, and West Milton.

The Milton Town Court (Town of Milton Justice Court) has jurisdiction over all town matters outside of the village. All village matters are adjudicated at the Ballston Spa Village Court. The town court handles criminal arraignments, landlord-tenant disputes, code violations, and traffic tickets. The town does not have a police department. Traffic patrol is instead conducted by the New York State Police and the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office. The authorities are permitted to cite motorists with a wide range of violations like driving without a license, driving with a suspended license, unsafe passing, texting or calling while driving, and of course, speeding.
Most traffic stops occur on the main roads in town. New York State Route 29 (NYS-29) runs east-west through the northern part of town. Taking this road east will bring you to the city of Saratoga Springs. NYS-29 connects to several large north and south bound roads. These roads are County Route 47 (Rowland Street), County Route 49 (Rock City Road), and County Route 59 (Middle Line Road). CR-47 runs north and south along the town’s eastern boundary and heads into Ballston Spa as you travel south. CR-49 heads south to West Milton before turning west and then south again. CR-59 heads north and south through the center of town, passing through Milton Center.
