Lorraine is a town in Jefferson County, New York. It is twenty miles south of Watertown. It is a rural town with a population of around one thousand (). The total area of the town is 39 square miles and most of it is the Winona State Forest. The town contains the hamlets of Allendale, Lorraine, Waterville and Winona.
Lorraine is considered part of the “Tug Hill Plateau”, an area known for its abundant snowfalls. This is due to its proximity off Lake Ontario and the “Lake-effect snow”. It is common to reach depths of five feet. The area averages more than 200 inches of total snow in a winter season.

The Lorraine Town Court (Town of Lorraine Justice Court) adjudicates all of the town’s traffic violations.
