Little Falls is a city in Herkimer County, New York. It is located approximately twenty-five miles east of the larger city of Utica. Little Falls is the second smallest city in New York State, by population. , the city had an estimated 4,500 residents. The city is almost surrounded by the Town of Little Falls, on its southern, western, and northern sides. On its eastern side is the Town of Manheim. The Mohawk River/Erie Canal cuts through the center of the city.

New York State Route 5 runs east-west across most of the state. Through Herkimer County it runs parallel with the Mohawk River. As it enters the City of Little Falls from the east, it is two lanes, and is named Revolutionary Trail. Shortly after entering the city from the east it merges with New York State Route 167, which originates from the Village of Dolgeville, northeast of Little Falls. They both run concurrently for a bit. In the approximate center of the city, the NYS-167 turns southward and leaves Little Falls in the direction of Richfield Springs. NSY-5 continues westward and is now called West Main Street. It continues westward until it leaves the city in its southwest corner. As the NYS-5 leaves Little Falls, the lanes go from two to one. Other notable roads in the City are New York State Route 169 (West Monroe Street) and New York State Route 170 (East Monroe Street). These roads run north-south on each side of the city.
Most traffic stops are conducted on the aforementioned roads. Citations can be conducted by officers of the Little Falls Police Department or troopers of the New York State Police. All city tickets are made answerable to the Little Falls City Court. This court should not be confused with the Little Falls Town Court.
