Lewis is a town in Essex County, New York. It is located on the eastern foothills of the Adirondack Park, approximately 130 miles north of Albany and approximately 50 miles south of the Canadian border. The area is known as the North Country region. Lewis is a large and rural town. It covers an area of eighty five square miles. The western half of town is mostly uninhabited forestland., the estimated population was 1,250. There are four small hamlets: Crowningshield, Deerhead, Lewis, and Stotwerville.
