The town also encompasses the Village of Clinton (not to be confused with the Town of Clinton in Dutchess County). The main road found west of Clinton is New York State Route 233 (NYS-233). It runs north and south. Its southern terminus is the intersection of NYS-12B. This occurs in Farmers Mills. Heading north on NYS-233 will eventually bring you to the Seneca Turnpike (New York State Route 5). This road falls under the town’s jurisdiction for a moment in the town’s most northern area. Another large road is found in the town’s south-east corner. The road is New York State Route 12 (New Paris Road). It runs along the town line. Heading north on NYS-12 takes you to New Hartford.

The Kirkland Town Court (also known as the Kirkland Justice Court) has jurisdiction over the town roads. The court is located within the Town of Kirkland Municipal Building. It adjudicates every traffic ticket issued in town, including infractions in the Village of Clinton. Officers of the Kirkland Police Department conduct traffic patrols in both the town and the village. They are backed by the New York State Police and the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office.
