Kingston is a city in Ulster County, New York. It is located on the western bank of the Hudson River approximately ninety miles north of New York City. Adjacent to the city is the Town of Kingston. In 1777, Kingston became New York State's first capital. Soon thereafter, the British burned down the city. The area of the city was initially settled in 1614 by Dutch migrants.
