Ilion, New York
Ilion is a village in Herkimer County, New York. It is located approximately fifteen miles east of Utica and is considered part of the Mohawk Valley region. Most of Ilion is within the town of German Flatts. A small part of the village is within the town of Frankfort.,the population was estimated at 7,500, down from years prior. The village covers about two and a half square miles. Ilion was first settled in 1725 by German immigrants. The village was home to the Remington Arms, the famous firearm manufacturing company. The company brought many workers to settle in the area during the early and mid-1800’s. The plant closed in October of 2021.
