Hammond is a town and village in St. Lawrence County, New York. The village is within the town. Hammond is located in the northwestern part of the state along the Canadian border. The St. Lawrence River forms the town’s western line and also serves as the US-Canada border. The small city of Ogdensburg is approximately twenty miles north of Hammond. The town size is seventy-eight square miles. Roughly three quarters is land, and one quarter is water of the St. Lawrence River. The town also encompasses dozens of islands in the river. Most are small and uninhabited.

Hammond was formed in 1827 and named after an early landowner named Abijah Hammond. In the 19th century most of the town was dedicated to sheep farming. Now it is dairy farming. Along the river there are several recreational activities, which brings a lot of summer visitors.
