Hadley, New York
Hadley is a town in Saratoga County, New York. It is located approximately fifty miles north of Albany in the southern part of the Adirondacks. It is considered part of the North Country region and the Capital District region. The Hudson River forms the eastern town boundary. The Sacandaga River and Stewarts Bridge Reservoir are in the southern part of the town. Hadley makes up forty-one square miles, mostly forestland. , the town was home to an estimated 2,000 residents. The town sees an influx of people in the summer months. Visitors come for the relatively mild weather and outdoor water activities. The town was formed in 1801 and still maintains some historic buildings and structures. Hadley is home to the Hadley Parabolic Bridge, an iron bridge dating back to the late 1800’s. It is the only iron semi-deck bridge in the entire state. The bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.

County Route 1 (CR-1) is the town’s main roadway. It runs north and south along the eastern town line. CR-1 follows the Hudson River downstream until it reaches the Sacandaga River. It meets County Route 4 (North Shore Road), the town’s main east-west bound road that runs along the Sacandaga River and the Stewards Bridge Reservoir. Across the water is County Route 7 (South Shore Road). Like CR-4 it runs along the river and Reservoir. In the southeastern corner, New York State Route 9N runs north to the neighboring village of Lake Luzerne. NYS-9N is only under the town’s jurisdiction for a moment.
The Town of Hadley does not have a police department. Safety and traffic patrols are instead conducted by Troop G of the New York State Police and the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office. The authorities are asked to cite motorists who break traffic laws. A wide range of violations are issued, but the most common one is speeding. The speed limit in Hadley fluctuates between 55 and 40 miles per hour, with the latter occurring in the more residential areas. The Hadley Town Court (Hadley Justice Court) adjudicates all tickets issued in town.
