Ellenburg, New York

Ellenburg is a small and rural town in Clinton County, New York. It is considered part of New York’s Northern Country region and is roughly ten miles south of the US- Canada border. As of February of 2022, the town’s population was 1,797. The area was originally settled in 1800 and named after Ellen Murray, the daughter of a local landowner. During the Cold War, Ellenburg was the location of two strategically placed, operational, Atlas ICBM missile silos. They were active between 1962 and 1965.

Traffic Tickets in Ellenburg, New York

US-Route 11 is one of the two east-west routes in the Northern County region. For the most part, the speed limit is 55 mph. As the US-11 enters downtown areas, the speed limit is reduced. However motorists not paying attention to the signs often get ensnared in speed traps. Indeed, most motorists caught speeding are from out of the area.

Another busy road is the New York State Route 190 (Star Road). It spans the entire length of town running east-west and connects with US-11 before it leaves town. It intersects with the north-south bound County Route 2 (Brandy Brook Road) near the middle of town. County Route 2 enables travel to the hamlet of Ellenburg Center. After passing the hamlet, it continues south until it leaves town. In the very south-west corner of town the Hamlet of Merrill is served by New York State Route 374. As NYS-374 runs north from Merrill it trails along the nearby river. The remainder of town is served by local roads that all lead to either NYS-190 or CR-2.
