De Kalb, New York
De Kalb is a town in St. Lawrence County, New York. It is located at the northwest foothills of the Adirondack Park and is considered part of the North Country region. The town is around twenty miles east of Ogdensburg, a small city on the Canadian border. , the population of De Kalb was estimated at 2,400. The town stretches across eighty-three square miles. De Kalb encompasses the village of Richville. The hamlets and communities are named Bigelow, Cooper Falls, De Kalb, De Kalb Junction, East DeKalb, Osbornville and Stellaville. The area was first settled in 1803 by Judge William Cooper of Cooperstown, New York. Three years later, in 1806, the town was formed. It was renamed De Kalb in honor of a French officer who served in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War.
