Town of Dannemora, New York
Dannemora is a town in Clinton County, New York. It is located in the northeast corner of New York State, approximately thirty miles south of the Canadian border and approximately twenty miles west of the City of Plattsburgh. Dannemora covers roughly sixty-five square miles and is rectangular in shape. The town is four times wider horizontally than it is vertically. , the town’s population was estimated at 5,000. However, the majority of its “residents” are prisoners incarcerated in the Clinton Correctional Facility. The census considers prisoners as residents of the town where the prison is located. Dannemora was made famous in 2015 when two prisoners escaped the Clinton Correctional Facility with the help of a prison guard. The story was made into a TV mini-series on Showtime.
There is also a Village of Dannemora. The village is located partially in the town of Dannemora and partially in the Town of Saranac. The village is governed separately from the town and has its own justice court.
