Cobleskill is a town in Schoharie County, New York. It is located approximately fifty miles west of Albany and is considered part of New York’s Mohawk Valley region. Within the town is the Village of Cobleskill. The village is the main commercial area and main population area of the town., the total town population was approximately 5,950.
Cobleskill was first settled in 1712. It was formally established in 1795 along with Schoharie County. The town name is derived from Jacob Kobell, the name of an early settler, and the dutch word “kil”, which translates to “stream”. SUNY Cobleskill is found within the village. Cobleskill is also near Howe Caverns, New York State’s second most visited natural attraction.
