Chester is a town in Warren County, New York. It is located on the eastern foothills of the Adirondacks, approximately twenty miles north of Lake George and approximately eight miles north of Albany. The town is considered part of the North Country region. Chester’s two hamlets are Chestertown and Pottersville. The former is the main population area and the location of town offices. The Adirondack Northway (Interstate 87) runs north-south along the eastern border of the town. The highway is two lanes in each direction and has a speed limit of 65 miles per hour. They run concurrently for a bit before the US-9 turns northward again and heads towards the Hamlet of Pottersville. There it begins to run parallel with the I-87 as it leaves town.
