Berne is a town in Albany County, New York. It is located approximately twenty-five miles west of the City of Albany. , the town population was estimated at 2,600. The main population area is centered around the intersection of New York State Route 443 and New York State Route 156. German refugees began settling in the area at the beginning of the 18th century.
